What's Hiding In Your Closet?

Being Your Best YOU Without Breaking the Bank

"I have nothing to wear", she says as she looks at her closet stuffed with clothes. "We need new furniture", he says, "but we don't have room in the budget for it right now."

Join Marianne Evans of Algonquin's Upscale Consignment Boutique & Showroom, Best Friend's Consignment (previously Your Best Friend's Closet and Your Best Friend's Home) as she takes us through her personal & professional journey of resilience and perseverance, from garage sale hostess to leader of this Algonquin gem known for the quality of its products and its genuine, professional customer service.

New Year, Better You!

Please bring something from your closet that's still in good condition that you want to part with: it might be something you love and are ready to part with, something that was gifted and isn't your style, or that thing that you're not sure about but it's been taking up valuable real estate in your closet. A fellow Wimmer might love to have it or Marianne just might give you ideas about how to incorporate it into your wardrobe or use it to buy something new!

Get ready to be INSPIRED!

Local Business Leader, Jennifer Prell, will take us through her journey to owning multiple businesses that do great things for our communities and people in all walks of life!

When Jennifer established Paxem, Inc. 15 years ago, its mission was to help people organize their homes and/or move out. Today, Paxem is an A+ accredited Senior Move Manager and ASEL (American Society of Estate Liquidators) accredited organization - helping with all aspects of organizing, estate liquidation and moving. The Paxem Consignment Showroom in Palatine showcases high-quality furnishings, art, rugs and decoratives.

Shortly after Paxem opened its doors, Jennifer founded Elderwerks Educational Services, a 501c(3) corporation helping families find senior housing, care and support services based on their individual needs. Elderwerks complementary services encompass referrals for any type of senior housing (assisted living, memory care, retirement living, nursing homes, etc.), home care, and support services (elder law attorneys, Senior Move Managers, SRES (Senior Real Estate Specialists) Realtors, geriatric care managers and more.

Jennifer also founded Treasured Bits, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation raising money for Illinois active duty families, veterans, seniors and homeless for household related expenses.

Jennifer volunteers her time on the Collaborative Healthcare Urgency Group (CHUG) board as Board Treasurer. CHUG helps senior communities and hospitals with emergency preparedness, sheltering in place and evacuation if necessary.  She is the Vice President of Continuity of Care, Lake/McHenry Chapter, on the Board for the Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce and a member of many other organizations that help seniors.

Building Your Attorney/Client Relationship

Think about the most rewarding relationships in your life: most of them have been cultivated for years, but many of us don't think about attorneys until we have an immediate need for representation.  Taking the initiative to develop this important relationship now can provide you with an immediate resource for counsel and significantly reduce stress from your personal and business life.

Carl Metz is an attorney with almost 25 years’ experience.  He graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics, and from Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon.  He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Wisconsin and has appeared in courts in numerous other states.  After practicing law in Chicago for 17 years, he has moved his practice back to Crystal Lake in 2016 where he first started.  His clients’ matters take him all over northern Illinois and Wisconsin.  Carl Metz' practice areas include corporate and construction law, mechanics/construction liens, bond claims, partnership and business disputes, commercial litigation and catastrophic loss litigation including subrogation, OSHA disputes, will and trust disputes, trade secrets, insurance law and insurance defense. Carl works with his clients to develop internal processes to manage their risks and protect their rights.

Patrick Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney

The McHenry County State's Attorney Office represents the County in all government affairs, and prosecutes crimes committed here.  Patrick will educate us on current affairs such as the opioid crisis, fraud and identity theft.  Learn how this important part of our local government helps protect you and how you can protect yourself.

Patrick  joined the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office in 2007 as an assistant state’s attorney. During his tenure as an assistant state’s attorney, Patrick worked in traffic court, misdemeanor court, felony court, as a special prosecutor, in the Civil Division, and as the First Assistant. He handled thousands of criminal prosecutions and represented the County in civil litigation and on government related legal matters. Patrick was elected McHenry County State’s Attorney in 2016.

Patrick believes it is his duty to stand in solidarity with victims who often must endure for a lifetime the consequences of the senseless criminal acts of others.  He is committed to resolutely prosecuting criminal offenders, but doing so without ever losing sight of his ultimate ethical responsibility to seek justice before all else and ensure a defendant’s rights are protected.

Patrick has been awarded the Turning Point Peace and Justice Award for his work on behalf of victims of domestic battery and currently serves on the Executive Board of the McHenry County Substance Abuse Coalition. He is also a member of the McHenry County and Illinois Bar Associations.
